#libday7: a Multimedia Journal

29 Jul

It’s Library Day in the Life time again!

Here is a week in my life as an Academic Liaison Librarian – works best in full screen mode:

.

(Here’s a link in case you’re viewing this in Google Reader and the embedded content doesn’t display.)

I don’t normally write much for this (last time round I did a video) because I think people are often over-saturated with LibDay posts – but I’m making an exception this time because my new job is so much more interesting than previous roles! Also, subject librarian is one of those roles which people find very difficult to really get a handle on – no two days are the same, so finding out what subject librarians actually DO is tricky. So the journal above is a fuller account.

Let me know if you have any questions about the job, particularly if it’s an area you’re wondering about going into yourself…

Like old looking journals? Enjoy having a nosey at what others do? Then the @theREALwikiman’s #libday7 could be for you http://t.co/B31MPSA

I wrote a #libday7 digital journal thing: http://t.co/v4e1GTm using issuu!

Very interesting read, great to get a real insight into your role. I love the way you’ve presented it, first time I’ve seen Issuu used for something other than a publisher’s catalogue.

This is incredible! (Almost missed it in Reader though) RT @theREALwikiman: #libday7: a Multimedia Journal http://bit.ly/rdXx33

Hehe, it’s interesting how what you do changes your perceptions: as a subject librarian myself I found finding out about your (very different) previous job really fascinating. Not to say this wasn’t a good read!

And I've tried to make it as visual and entertaining as possible.. So if you've got a sec, check out: http://bit.ly/rdXx33 #libday7

Thanks Jenni – I’ve always liked issuu, but never previously found a way to use that wasn’t the tail wagging the dog (ie just crow-barring something into it)… Pleased with how this has turned out though.

A multimedia journal from @theREALwikiman on #libday7. Well worth reading http://bit.ly/nZ4YmL

    Nice!

I enjoyed reading this. Added to the spice is that you spell catalogue with a “ue” on the end. People always tell me that I’m spelling the word wrongly and I can’t tell them to look it up because then they’ll go to dictionary.com and be redirected to “catalog.”

Also, enjoyed the example of Issuu.

Katie, yep, it’s always more interesting hearing about what you don’t do yourself… But personally I’m finding subject librarian work itself a lot more interesting than the roles I’ve had before.

Jill, I didn’t realise it was such a polticial issue! :)
